This course presents an overview of the judicial process with emphasis on the New Mexico Court System, the practical, ethical, applied skills and abilities required in the three modes of interpreting. Students may want to obtain a copy of the Black’s Law Dictionary, the Interpreter’s Edge, and the Interpreter’s Companion. (These texts are not required but will be useful for the course of your career.) 

Third course in the JSI curriculum, runs for eight weeks. Also contains the Ethics and Best Practices course materials.  Live lecture date May 19.

This course will provide a high-level overview of the criminal justice system in New Mexico focusing on the pretrial process. Topics such as legal foundations, professional standards, and the elements of a high-functioning pretrial agency will be introduced.
